Full Participation

All young people should have access to education and training opportunities to enable them to realise and fulfil their potential.

Since the change in the law (Education and Skills Act 2008), pupils who left Year 11 after summer 2014 need to take part in some form of education or training until at least their 18th birthday. We have a duty to make sure there are suitable opportunities for all 16 to 19 year olds; 16 to 25 year olds with learning difficulties and disabilities.

We analyse current opportunities to make sure that there is provision to meet the diverse needs of our young people. We will agree a strategy to influence funders of education and training as well as those who deliver qualifications in school, colleges and other learning providers.

To ensure that current provision is having an impact, we collect data on where and how young people are participating that enables us to identify young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) and link them to agencies and providers who can help them.

The Full Participation team can be contacted via 14-19@birmingham.gov.uk
