What you can put in your brown food waste caddy

You can put any raw or cooked food in your brown caddy. This includes:

  • meat, fish, and bones
  • fruit (including whole fruit) and vegetables
  • dairy products, including cheese and yoghurt
  • bread, rice and pasta
  • leftovers and plate scrapings
  • tea bags and coffee grounds
  • eggs and eggshells
  • loose pet food (dried or wet) without the packaging
  • beans
  • cakes and pastries
  • mouldy or out-of-date food
  • ready meals removed from their packaging

Do not use your caddy for:

  • any item that is not food waste
  • packaging of any kind, such as food wrappers
  • paper plates
  • black bags
  • liquids, such as milk
  • oil or fat
  • flowers or garden waste

By keeping non-food items out of your caddy, you are making sure the food waste we collect can be recycled properly.

Check if items we can not collect with your food waste can be put in:

Caddy liners

When your caddies are delivered, we will give you a roll of caddy liners.

You can also:

  • buy more liners from supermarkets
  • use a plastic bag
  • choose not to use a liner at all

We will still collect your food waste if it has been placed directly into the caddy.

Any liner used is removed during processing and is not recycled.

Keeping your caddy clean

To reduce smells and pests:

  • keep caddy lids closed securely
  • empty the indoor kitchen caddy regularly
  • clean your caddies regularly
  • place kitchen roll at the bottom of the grey indoor kitchen caddy to absorb moisture
  • if you can, keep your brown outdoor caddy in a shaded area

Stickers for your bin

Your new bins and caddies will be delivered with stickers that you can attach to them.

The stickers will tell you what you can put in that bin.
