About the programme

The Pride in Place Programme is a government programme that gives local people more power to shape their neighbourhood's future.

It provides long-term investment to help communities focus on the issues that matter most to local people. Communities can use this funding to make lasting improvements and create better places to live.

The programme aims to:

  • strengthen local pride
  • improve social infrastructure
  • empower residents to shape the future of their own neighbourhoods

Birmingham’s Pride in Place areas

Nine areas in Birmingham have been selected by the government to receive up to £20 million each over 10 years, from 2026 to 2036. These areas are:

Neighbourhood boards and independent chairs

Resident-led neighbourhood boards in each of the 9 areas decide how funding is spent. This means local people can influence decisions and help shape their neighbourhood's future.

Board members work with residents and local organisations to create a shared vision and plan for their area.

Each neighbourhood board has an independent chair. The chair provides leadership and helps make sure the board stays community-led and connected to local people.
