About the school

The last few years have seen exciting developments in our school. In June 2019 a new build with 8 classrooms opened. At the same time, our Early Years area was extensively altered and expanded. This means that we have gradually grown from a one form to two form entry school and by September 2024 there will be two forms of entry in every year group.

At the heart of all we do is our commitment to develop the ‘Moor Hall Child’. We want our children to grow in confidence, aspire for high levels of academic achievement, understand their place in the wider world and maintain physical and mental health.

We invite you to visit our website to learn more about the school. Take a virtual tour!

The main responsibilities of a Governor
The purpose of governance is to provide confident and strong strategic leadership which leads to robust accountability, oversight, and assurance for educational and financial performance.
This involves not merely holding the school to account, but offering the informed support and encouragement which will enable it to thrive and develop.
In addition, we ensure that we engage with our community and listen to the views of parents.
Requirements
There are no specific qualifications for the role of governor. You just need the right attitude, enthusiasm, and time to devote to the role.
Specific requirements for this school

We are interested in a governor with enthusiasm, high aspirations, the ability to be reflective and a strong desire to develop their own knowledge and understanding.  We are a group of committed volunteers with a range of professional, community and social skills. Working together as part of a team is important to us.
We have focussed on the things that matter most in the school. Each governor has a clearly defined role. There are named governors for health and safety, safeguarding, championing the disadvantaged child and including those children with Special Needs and Disabilities, pupil and staff wellbeing, the curriculum and personal development. In addition, named governors have overseen each of the priorities of the school development. Governors meet with school leaders throughout the year, and adopt a professional curiosity to ensure that the school is making sufficient progress towards achieving its priorities.
We use a skills audit to identify the competencies we have and those we would like to develop. We currently have vacancies for someone with an understanding of and experience of health and safety and risk assessment. Alternatively we would also like someone who has a passion for reading and literacy skills. However, we can be flexible if the right person shows an interest in joining us.

Day and times of most meetings

There are 6 Full Governing Board meetings a year, one each half term and a short procedural meeting at the start of the year to allocate roles and responsibilities. Meetings are usually held in the evening starting at 6pm. Meetings are sometimes virtual and sometimes face to face. However, one of the meetings is a governor’s half day in school. There is also a finance and resources committee which meets during the school day and is always virtual, and a small personnel committee.  FGB meetings are timetabled 12 months in advance.

The time commitment
Approximately 10 days per year spent attending meetings, visiting the school from time-to-time and undertaking relevant training. We have access to quality online training so governors can manage their own diaries. We ask that all governors are able to visit the school at least once a term.
Why volunteer?

Volunteering as a School Governor is a great opportunity to gain leadership experience at board level as well as transferable skills that enhance performance and employability. Most of all, you will have the satisfaction of making a real difference to children’s lives and helping them to realise their potential.

We would love to hear from you.
