About the school

Braidwood is a small and dynamic secondary school for Deaf young people aged between 11 and 18. Our school is modern and purpose-built, designed to enable Deaf learners to access a full curriculum. Our learners come from all over the City of Birmingham and from other local authorities such as Sandwell, Dudley, Solihull and across the Midlands region.

The main responsibilities of a Governor
As part of a team:
•Setting the strategic direction of the school;
•Holding the leadership to account for the performance of the school;
•Making sure that resources are used well and that money is well spent.
Requirements
There are no specific qualifications for the role of governor. You just need the right attitude, enthusiasm, and time to devote to the role.
Specific requirements for this school

Ideally the Governing Board is seeking volunteers with a finance and/or human resource management interests.
More than anything, we are looking for people who have a genuine interest in supporting the education and ambitions of Deaf young people. The role is about achieving the very best for every learner at the school.

Day and times of most meetings

The Governing Board meets once every half term (6 meetings per year), on a Thursday at 5pm. Usually our meetings are held remotely so that governors do not have to travel long distances for meetings after a full day.

The time commitment
Approximately 10 days per year spent attending meetings, visiting the school from time-to-time and undertaking relevant training.
Why volunteer?

Volunteering as a School Governor is a great opportunity to gain school leadership experience at board level as well as transferable skills that enhance performance and employability. Most of all, you will have the satisfaction of making a real difference to children’s lives and helping them to realise their potential.

We would love to hear from you.
