Financial Inclusion Partnership
The Financial Inclusion Partnership works to:
• Improve the financial health and wellbeing of Birmingham citizens
• Close the gap between areas of deprivation and not so deprived areas
• Reduce financial vulnerability in Birmingham.
Many people can't access mainstream financial products such as bank accounts and low-cost loans. They are more likely to use the alternative credit market and pay higher levels of interest, which can lead to poverty and financial and social exclusion.
The West Midlands is one of the areas across the country with significant numbers of people who don't have access to mainstream financial advice, affordable credit or banking.
To tackle these problems Birmingham City Council established a Financial Inclusion Partnership to tackle the problem of financial exclusion by working in partnership with key organisations such as the Citizens Advice Bureau, Consumer Credit Counselling Service, Job Centre Plus, Credit Unions, Housing Associations, Banks and Utilities. T he Financial Inclusion Partnership helps to facilitate a wide variety of activities across the city, such as Pay Ahead Stay Ahead and the House 2 Home project in Sparkbrook, aimed at teaching people the practical skills they need to live independently, such as DIY, managing a household budget and getting online.
A strategy for tackling financial exclusion
Birmingham's Financial Inclusion Partnership is developing our own Financial Inclusion Strategy and Action Plan, which will appear on this page when complete.
