St Mary's RC School

On Wednesday 13th July we welcomed the students from St Mary’s Roman Catholic School to our HQ at Birmingham Science Park.

Just one of the many groups we regularly welcome to engage and help create school dinner concepts! we were delighted to talk to them all about our food and provenance, seek ideas for future school menus.

The group was chaperoned by  Mrs Tame, teaching assistant, pictured here (left)  with our very own Angela Dodman

Our executive development Chef , Wayne Edge welcomed the team and introduced them to a range of fresh vegetables and fruit  all which are locally sourced. Chef  Wayne talked about sweet potatoes –  and that they are really nice when mashed and also as healthier baked-chips. He surprised the kids when he said they also sometimes go in our muffins!

Chef Lisa gave some instructions for sometimes it can get noisy in the kitchen so she said if we get to noisy she will shout “stop, look and listen” to get everyone’s attention.

Chefs’ Lisa and Wayne supervised the children in making their own pizza, Chef Wayne was keen for the children to try all the vegetables that they don’t like, ‘wizz’ them up into a base and then put it on their own pizzas – which they then ate in Cityserve’s Boardroom.

On return Chefs’ supervised the creation of knickerbocker glories where each willing participant chopped their own fruits, whisked their ice cream and created their own desserts.

Finally they had a go at helping Chef write some new menus.  Thanks for visiting us St. Mary’s – what a wonderful group!
