1.Birmingham Community Healthcare (BCHC) NHS Foundation Trust - Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) - Flu season 2026 -2027- Key Messages (Information for Birmingham and Solihull Care Homes)
Seasonal Influenza (Flu) vaccination is a critically important public health intervention to reduce morbidity and mortality in those most at risk including older people, pregnant women, and those in clinical risk groups.
Flu immunisation is one of the most effective interventions we can provide to reduce harm from flu and pressures on health and social care services during the winter including vaccination of health and care workers, to help prevent transmission of flu and protect both the worker and those they care for.
Ensuring clinical risk groups receive the vaccine is crucial because of increased risk of death and serious illness if people in these groups catch flu. Vaccination of health and social care workers protects them and reduces the risk of them spreading flu to their patients, service users, colleagues, and family members.
For further information please refer to the National flu immunisation programme 2026 to 2027 letter (Updated 9 June 2026)

September is Sepsis awareness month. Every year thousands of people die from sepsis and many people surviving sepsis face long-term complications. It is a condition that requires immediate attention and better care from our health system. Sepsis is a serious reaction to an infection that can be life-threatening, it develops very quickly and requires urgent medical treatment in hospital. Without immediate treatment, sepsis can lead to multiple organ failure and death. Sepsis kills more people than breast, bowel, and prostate cancer combined – but it’s often treatable, if caught early. September is Sepsis Awareness Month in the UK, with World Sepsis Day taking place globally on Sunday, 13 September 2026. This year marks the 15th anniversary of dedicated advocacy and education led by the:
World Sepsis Day - September 13
