1. Birmingham City Council, Provider Focus Groups – Opportunity to Feedback to Birmingham City Council – Update on Next Steps (Information for all Care Providers that Support Citizens Funded by Birmingham City Council)
Four Provider Focus Groups were arranged in Autumn of last year (18 August / 20 August / 28 August / 2 September 2025) via Microsoft Teams. Each session ran for 90 minutes - they were open to all Care Providers that support citizens funded by Birmingham City Council.
The purpose of the Provider Focus Groups was to give you an opportunity to feedback on how you think the Council is performing in key areas – Social Work / Occupational Therapy / Safeguarding / Commissioning / Communication & Relationships.
Over the coming weeks we will update as to what actions we have taken in response to the feedback received.
The following is a progress update from the Commissioning Team.
Care Providers asked for:
- Updated Market Position Statements.
- Better communication on gaps in the care market to help providers plan services.
- Care Providers gave feedback that larger providers often secure most packages and smaller providers feel disadvantaged.

3. NHS England - The Patient Safety Syllabus is Available for All Staff Working and Care Homes (Information for all Birmingham and Solihull Care Providers)
The Patient Safety Syllabus e-learning educational modules which are available for all staff within the NHS and Social care. Completion of Levels 1 and 2 are strongly recommended for staff working in nursing homes to raise awareness of the importance of patient safety and its impact on patient care. The training is free to all staff and each level takes around 30 minutes to complete, Level 1, Essentials for patient safety, is the starting point for learners, Level 2, Access to practice, is intended for those who have an interest in understanding more about patient safety or who want to go on to access the higher levels of training. 5. REMINDER NHS Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care Board (BSOL ICB) - Urgent Community Response (UCR) Birmingham and Solihull - Latest Information and Resources (Birmingham and Solihull Care Homes)
Care Homes in Birmingham and Solihull are advised to contact the UCR in the first instance for receiving urgent care. The team can provide a rapid response service within two hours of your call. This referral service offers an alternative to calling an ambulance and helps to avoid unnecessary hospital admissions or readmissions. This service has highly skilled and dedicated clinicians who can deliver a rapid response to the urgent care needs of your residents or refer to the ambulance service if emergency hospital care is needed.
