2. Care Homes Market Intelligence Questionnaire (MIQ) – October 2023 – DEADLINE 20 October 2023 (information for all Birmingham and contracted care homes)

the deadline for completion is Friday 20 October 2023.
Please note that this is the first quarterly version of the questionnaire, with some additional questions added to the monthly question set. Further information about this subject has been circulated to providers. If you don’t have a copy, please email marketintelligence@birmingham.gov.uk
Completion of the questionnaire is part of the terms of our current contracts for contracted providers, but we ask all Birmingham providers to take part in the process to help us meet our responsibilities to all Birmingham citizens.
Many thanks to staff at the care homes who completed the previous questionnaires. If this did not include your care home, please ensure that you complete the October and subsequent editions.
The purpose of the questionnaire is to collect information to assist our market shaping and development role, the production of our Market Position Statements, fulfil our Care Act duties around ensuring a quality and sustainable market, to help us direct resources, identify areas of risk, and monitor progress towards our strategic aims. It has been co-produced with health colleagues to reduce duplication in data collection, and has been streamlined so that we are only collecting information that is not available to us from elsewhere e.g. the Capacity Tracker.
We will only be collecting data that we will use and at the frequency we need it. There is a shorter monthly questionnaire, a slightly longer quarterly questionnaire with some additional questions, and a slightly longer still annual questionnaire.

3. REMINDER Change in Funding CHC or self-funder process (information for contracted providers)
A reminder of the guidance published in July 2021 has been circulated to providers. If you don’t have a copy, please email marketintelligence@birmingham.gov.uk
This guidance is for when a citizen’s funding status changes but they wish to remain in their current care home, which costs more than the Council’s usual fixed fee or is not contracted to the Council.

4. Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) A Special Note to Homecare Providers (information for all home support and supported living providers)
Firstly, thank you to the 85% of home care settings for prioritising uploading your data to the Capacity Tracker last month.
Please be reminded that to be compliant you must review and submit your data during the collection window that opens on the 8th of each month and closes on the 14th of each month,unless this falls on a weekend or bank holiday when the final day for submission moves to the next working day.
Failure to share your data could result in you being issued with a financial penalty.
You will receive a system generated email that is sent to all providers registered on Capacity Tracker to notify you when the monthly collection window is open. The email contains links that:
- Directs you to the Capacity Tracker to review, update, and save your information
- Enables you to provide a 'nil' return or to save the previously updated information without needing to log into Capacity Tracker
Another system generated email reminder is sent 48 hours prior to the collection window closing, to those who have not completed any update.
If you need any assistance or advice regarding updating the Capacity Tracker, contact the Support Centre on 0191 691 3729 or via email at necsu.capacitytracker@nhs.net
If you have been approached by the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) or North of England Commissioning Support (NECS) regards providing data via Capacity Tracker you must do so, even if a 'nil' return - i.e. updating all fields to zero.
If you believe your type of service does not have a duty to provide data via the Capacity Tracker please provide a ‘nil’ return every month and send details of your service to capacitytracker-guidance@dhsc.gov.uk to discuss any next steps.
5. Black History Month Health Conference October 2023 (information for all providers)
Throughout October Birmingham City Council's Public Health division is holding a free virtual conference titled ‘Global Communities, Local Challenges, Partnership Solutions’, to share learning and celebrate our diverse and vibrant ethnic communities. 6. REMINDER Care Quality Commissioner (CQC) Provider webinar: Introducing quality statements and evidence categories 12 October 2023 (information for all providers)
This webinar is the next instalment in the CQCs transformation series. In it, they will introduce their quality statements and evidence categories, and the role they play in the new regulatory approach.
The 1-hour session on Thursday 12 October, from 3 to 4pm will be led by Dave James, Head of Policy – Adult Social Care and Amanda Hutchinson, Head of Regulatory Change. It will focus on example quality statements, to explore how the CQC will use evidence categories to identify specific sources of evidence to use in their assessments. Alongside the full provider guidance, this webinar will give you the information you need to understand the evidence the CQC will use to assess each of their new quality statements.
Registrations close at 12:00pm on Thursday 12 October and won't be able to accept any new registrations after this.

7. Cyber Security Awareness Month – Better Security, Better Care webinar 17 October 2023 (information for all providers)
October is Cyber Security Awareness Month. These webinars may help you review your digital arrangements and think about some less obvious risks.
Better Security, Better Care’s webinar, in partnership with the Homecare Association, explores how to minimise the impact of a cyber attack and the time it takes to recover from one. See link below:

9. REMINDER Birmingham and Solihull Nurses and Clinical Leads Network for Nurses working in social care next meeting 30 November 2023 (information for all Birmingham and Solihull care homes)
The Birmingham and Solihull Nurses and Clinical Leads Network for Nurses working in social care met in early September 2023 and had a very informative meeting. There were many interesting presentations delivered at the meeting.
The network is a unique platform that brings together nurses working in social care across Birmingham and Solihull, providing a valuable opportunity for nurses to connect, share ideas and knowledge, and receive support and guidance from peers.
In addition to providing a space for peer-to-peer support and best practice sharing, our forum offers both national and regional updates, ensuring nurses stay up to date with the latest developments. The forum also provides a platform for Continuing Professional Development (CPD), helping our members to enhance their skills, knowledge, and expertise, and take their careers to the next level.

10. NHE England Health Literate Organisation programme: upcoming events November and December 2023 (information for all providers)
The Health Literate Organisation Programme provides health and care professionals with health literacy awareness supported by tools, techniques and expert advice. It supports “Health Literacy Champions” to guide their team or services on the health literacy journey. It follows an evidence-based approach to helping organisations become health literate by wrapping the health literacy work in a change management approach to give it the best chance of succeeding and enduring. It consists of:
- Health Literacy Awareness Training
- Health Literate Organisation Workshops
- Access to the Health Literacy Group on the Knowledge Hub
- Guidance from a health literacy expert
- Community of Practice Workshops
These free events, brought to you on behalf of NHS England for health and care organisations across the Midlands will take place on Zoom.
