Providers are also required to continue to update the National Capacity Tracker with all positive cases. This information is still being used locally and nationally to monitor Covid-19 cases in social care settings.

If you have questions or queries regarding how to update the data and where to report specific scenarios, please contact capacitytracker-guidance@dhsc.gov.uk

6. EXTENDED DEADLINE Department of Health and Social Care - Care Market Survey 9 May 2022 (information for all providers)

On 7 September 2021, the Prime Minister announced changes that will affect the care home and home care provider market. To help understand this market better, DHSC is asking care home and home care providers to complete their survey now available within the Capacity Tracker; Care Home and Home Care providers can access the survey from their respective Manage your care homes or Manage your home care provider pages. The deadline for responding has been extended to 5pm Monday 9 May 2022. The survey is an opportunity for providers to share information about who is receiving care in their service and information about that care. This will help DHSC to understand what its reforms will mean in practice for residents, service users, and provider businesses. It will also help monitor how reform is affecting the care market in the coming months.

If you have any further questions relating to the DHSC Care Home and Home Care Markets Survey, please email:capacitytrackerfeeratesurvey@dhsc.gov.uk

The Capacity Tracker can be accessed below:

9. Care Quality Commission (CQC) Smiling Matters: Oral Health in Care Homes follow up report (information for all Care Homes)

In June 2019 we published our Smiling Matters: Oral Health in Care Homes report, which investigated the state of oral health in care homes.

Our key findings from the report were:

  • Nearly half (47%) of care homes were not providing any staff training to support people's daily oral healthcare.
  • 17% of care homes visited said they did not assess people's oral health on admission.
  • The majority (52%) of the care homes visited had no policy to promote and protect people's oral health.

We made a commitment to follow up on the recommendations we made in the report to see how much progress has been made and what areas need further support. On future inspections we will be focusing on this issue and hope to see improvements on how oral health is provided for care home residents. Our findings will be published in a follow-up report this year.
