8. Department of Health and Social Care - Have your say on the new Liberty Protection Safeguards – please share information with service users (information for all providers)

The government is updating the Mental Capacity Act Code of Practice and considering a new system of safeguards – the Liberty Protection Safeguards. This new system will replace the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. They want to know what service users think about the new system they have designed.

The government knows that not everyone will want to fill out the consultation survey. Because of this, they will also be holding some online events. These events will give people with lived experience of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and the Mental Capacity Act the opportunity to tell the government what they think about the Liberty Protection Safeguards and what this might mean for them.

The online events will be roughly two and half hours long, with half an hour for breaks. The events will be run by the Department of Health and Social Care. They will be led by Hilary Paxton who has previously led events for people with lived experience about the Liberty Protection Safeguards.

9. Care Quality Commission (CQC) CitizenLab service – please share information with service users (information for all providers)

The CQC CitizenLab service helps shape the work that they do. CitizenLab gives service users an easy way to get involved with the work or the CQC and share their ideas and opinions. The CQC use it to bring together groups of people, collect views, conduct surveys and run quick polls. What service users tell the CQC helps them to understand the things that are important to service users. The CQC can use what they learn to make their services and information better for everyone.

At the moment, projects on CitizenLab include:

A panel to influence CQC's work on mental health services

This is an opportunity to join a panel, run by CQC, of people who have experience of being detained under the Mental Health Act, in the last 2 years.

The Access-Able Panel

The Access-Able Panel brings together people with experience of using health and social care services who deliver a diverse range of expertise, knowledge and skills to a range of accessibility issues. If your service users would like to find out more about these projects or other work taking place on CitizenLab, please encourage them to sign up using the link below;
