Noticeboard: 1 April 2021

This week's Noticeboard includes information about Determined Admission Arrangements, an update regarding the European Union Deadline for Settlement, training opportunities and more.

Included in this update:

Determined Admissions Arrangements for 2022/23

We are writing to thank those schools that have already sent their determined admissions arrangements for 2022/2023 to us by 15 March 2021 as required by the School Admissions Code (2014).

For all those Own Admissions Authority Schools that have not yet done so, please can you send a copy as soon as possible to admissionsconsultation@birmingham.gov.uk

Please note that due to the changes to the accessibility legislation, in addition to Birmingham City Council’s own corporate web policy, we have had to adapt our approach of publishing admissions arrangements by 15 March 2021. Instead of attaching a PDF copy of your school’s Determined Admissions Arrangements for 2022/2023 (for those that have already sent theirs) to our website, we have instead provided a link to your admissions section on your school’s website.

We recommend that if you have not uploaded your 2022/2023 arrangements to your school’s website already that you do so as soon as possible as this should have been done by 15 March 2021. We also recommend that you still keep your 2021/2022 Determined Admissions Arrangements on your website as well.

Please can you click on the following link and check the link for your school is correct for your school’s Determined Admissions Arrangements 2022/2023. If there is any problem with the link on our website for your school then please email AdmissionsConsultation@birmingham.gov.uk and provide the correct link to where your 2022/2023 arrangements are stored so we can arrange for our website to be updated accordingly to reflect that. If at a later date you make changes to where you keep your arrangements please send us a revised link to ensure there are no discrepancies.

Finally, we have been working with a Birmingham-based education technology company called MyEd Limited to digitise the collection and publication of our school admissions information. We are planning to start collecting school admissions information and data by recommending all schools in Birmingham to use MyEd Search to update and submit their admissions data and arrangements for 2023/24 admissions cycle.  MyEd Search showcases all schools in a standard format, in one place, with information to help parents to find and understand all the essential information on schools locally and around the country. We shall be writing to all schools again in the Autumn to provide an update with the intention of introducing the My Search School Account.

We are inviting feedback on the approach and would be pleased to receive this via admissionsconsultation@birmingham.gov.uk

We also recommend that you visit the MyEd Search or email support@myed.com if you have any further questions.

The PIPA Trial – exploring the effectiveness of an online parenting resource

The PIPA Trial is exploring the effectiveness of an online resource for parents/carers to help prevent depression and anxiety in young people. The trial is coordinated by the University of Warwick. We will be recruiting families of young people aged 11-15 years from Birmingham, Coventry and surrounding areas and are collaborating with secondary schools to promote the trial and engage with families. Involvement for schools is very easy and minimal – we will work with a key contact in your school (mental health/safeguarding lead or similar) to sign a letter agreement and send out invitations to families (we will provide all necessary documents).

The PIPA Trial is free of cost to families and schools and is conducted completely online. Parents/carers and young people who are eligible to take part will be asked to complete some questionnaires and will receive access to a range of online parenting resources. This is a great opportunity for schools to get involved in the drive to improve youth mental health and support students and families, particularly during these unprecedented times. If your school is interested in getting involved and would like more information, please contact the trial team:  Email: PIPA@warwick.ac.uk -  Phone: 02476574316 or 02476575078 -  Website: www.warwick.ac.uk/pipa
