Update for schools: 25 January 2021

This update includes a youth violence webinar and a safeguarding webinar taking place on Thursday afternoon and a reminder about brokerage support being provided to families during the period of adverse weather.

Youth violence webinar: Thursday 28th January 4pm – 5.30pm

The tragic death of Keon Lincoln last Thursday shocked the whole city and has reminded us once again of the importance of continuing to raise awareness of the dangers of youth violence and its consequences. The devastating loss of Keon, his life taken by violence, has left a family and a community in grief and pain. Along with West Midlands Police we are working to support everyone who has been affected.

Later this week we are holding a webinar for schools (targeted at DSLs and pastoral leads but open to all) that will be delivered by Ray Douglas, an experienced intervention provider.

The webinar will explore the national epidemic of knife crime and serious youth violence and discuss how DSLs, and those working with school aged young people, can respond effectively, utilising real time interventions and evidence based practice.

Adverse weather

As we continue to be affected by adverse weather conditions in the city, a reminder that council officers are providing brokerage support to any key worker and vulnerable families requiring a school place if their child’s school is closed and the school has not been able to make local arrangements with an open school.

Please email edsi.enquiries@birmingham.gov.uk if you are aware of families requiring brokerage of places.
