Recommended poetry book list
Every two years, Poetry on Loan publishes a list of poetry books recommended by library staff.
Some of them may be familiar to you; others might not be. Dip into them, or read every book on the list, cover to cover - either way, there's something here for everyone. The new leaflet for 2018, Take this..., is now out! Get a copy at your local library,
Below are just a sample taken from the list and are available within Birmingham Libraries
Inside the wave / Dunmore, Helen,
New collection by prizewinning poet and novelist: poems about mortality, illness, being alive and the borderline between the living human world and the underworld.
Assembly lines / Commane, Jane,
Jane Commane's first collection is an exploration of the post-industrial towns and cities of the Midlands, Britain's heartlands that are forever on the periphery.
Black Country / Berry, Liz, (from the 2016 list)
Includes poems that transport us to other, deeper worlds: from the magic of childhood to the dawning of adulthood; from the dark, sensual mysteries of love and sexuality to the promise of new life.
