On Friday 17 May the Library of Birmingham's facade will be lit up green and blue for NEC Awareness Day.

NEC (necrotizing enterocolitis) is a leading cause of death for premature and medically fragile babies. 10 to 50% of babies who get NEC will die, and survivors often face life-long health challenges. Yet, few people have even heard of the disease.
