City centre segments consultation

Have your say: city centre traffic segments

Public consultation on proposals for city centre traffic segments is now live.

The scheme will see the city centre divided into a number of segments, each accessible from the A4540 Middleway (ring road). Movement between the segments will be enhanced for public transport, pedestrians and cyclists, while private motor vehicles will have to go back out onto the A4540 Middleway to move between segments.

The aims of the proposals are to enhance the city centre for everyone by reducing car dominance, to lower carbon emissions and improve air quality. The scheme will also help improve wayfinding around the city – particularly for visitors looking to access key attractions.

Some elements of the scheme have already been trialled, with temporary traffic changes in the Jewellery Quarter already in place. The proposals put forward for public consultation include making some of these changes permanent and introducing new measures in the Eastside area of the city.

To give us your views, please visit www.birminghambeheard.org.uk/economy/segments before 10 September 2021.

We will also be holding a number of consultation events - details are on the consultation webpage.

Summer Hill Road/Sand Pits bus lane consultation

Have your say on proposals for a bus lane on Summer Hill Road and Sand Pits (B4135). This consultation is separate from the city centre segments consultation, but complements it by improving journey times and reliability for buses.

Consultation closes 23 August 2021.
