A38 cycle route – change to junction at Pebble Mill Road

Work is progressing well on the A38 Selly Oak to city centre cycle route. As part of the scheme, the right turn from Pebble Mill Road onto the A38 Bristol Road (towards city centre) will be permanently closed to traffic from Monday 13 August.

For this stage of the work, some parking bays will be suspended on Pebble Mill Road, near the junction with the A38.

Traffic lane restrictions continue on the A38 Bristol Road 9:30am to 5pm into city and 7:30am to 3:30pm out of city, Monday to Friday.

Clean Air Zone consultation – last chance to have your say

Don’t miss your opportunity to comment on Birmingham’s plans to improve air quality with a charging Clean Air Zone. If you breathe in Birmingham, this affects you! Visit www.birmingham.gov.uk/caz to have your say before Friday 17 August 2018.

The final public drop in event is this Saturday, 11 August, 10am to 2pm on the High Street in Birmingham city centre (outside M&S).

Speed Enforcement Week

This week is TISPOL (European Traffic Police Network) Speed Enforcement Week. West Midlands Police have been busy raising awareness of the dangers of speeding, and reminding drivers of the benefits for all road users of driving at legal and appropriate speeds. Watch Midlands Today tonight (9 August) where there is likely to be a story on this – or check it out on iPlayer.

Work to install the fourth 20mph speed limit pilot area, Central South West Birmingham, is nearly complete. We are planning an official launch in the week commencing 24 September.

Read more information about 20mph speed limits and how you can support.

Euston Station closures

Euston Station will be closed for three weekends over the summer:

  • 18 to 9 August
  • 25 to 27 August
  • 1 to 2 September

Find out more about Euston Station summer weekend closures.

Cycle to Work Day

Next Wednesday, 15 August, is Cycle to Work Day. There is a great prize draw for anyone who pledges to cycle and a free event pack for employers who want to get their workplace involved.

Cycle parking consultation

As part of Birmingham Cycle Revolution, we are asking for people’s views on new locations for cycle parking, including some near to the new routes being built on the A38 Selly Oak to city centre and the A34 Perry Barr to city centre.

Locations are proposed in Balsall Heath, Bournbrook, city centre, Highgate and Newtown. Consultation closes on 27 August.

Dartmouth Circus

Work is ongoing at Dartmouth Circus, with a single lane operating on the roundabout every night (8.30pm to 6am) and full time between 8pm on Friday and 6am on Monday. During week days, two lanes are open.
The underpass is open during the day and closed every night (8:30pm to 6am).

Congestion is expected in the area, so please leave the car at home and travel by public transport, walk or cycle whenever possible.
