Summer sports

It’s a big week for sport in Birmingham, with the conclusion of the first test match and the start of the football season. This places extra demand on our transport system and can add to congestion, so it’s good to plan ahead and think about how you travel.

• The British Transplant Games begins tonight and ends on Sunday 5 August, with events at several venues including Alexander Stadium, University of Birmingham, Edgbaston Priory Clubs, Symphony Hall and ICC.
• England vs India cricket at Edgbaston continues until Sunday 5 August, play starts at 11am every day.
• Birmingham City FC are playing at home against Norwich this Saturday (4 August), kick off at 3pm.
• Aston Villa FC are playing at home against Wigan Athletic next Saturday (11 August), kick off at 3pm.

All these great sporting venues are accessible by public transport, so jump on the bus or train and avoid the hassle of parking and even enjoy a drink or two. If you must drive, avoid parking in nearby residential streets as this can cause congestion and is unfair for local residents.

Cross City Line to Bromsgrove

Electrification of the rail line to Bromsgrove is now complete, meaning there are now trains on the Cross City Line from Lichfield via Birmingham which continue beyond Longbridge to Bromsgrove. Download the Cross City Line timetable.

Cycle parking consultation

As part of Birmingham Cycle Revolution, we are asking for people’s views on new locations for cycle parking, including some near to the new routes being built on the A38 Selly Oak to city centre and the A34 Perry Barr to city centre.

Locations are proposed in:

• Balsall Heath
• Bournbrook
• City centre
• Highgate
• Newtown

Consultation closes on 27 August.

Clean Air Zone consultation

There are just over two weeks left to give your views on Birmingham’s plans to improve air quality by introducing a charging Clean Air Zone. If you breathe in Birmingham, this affects you! Visit www.birmingham.gov.uk/caz to have your say before 17 August 2018.

You can also visit drop-in events taking place around the city. The final sessions are being held at:

• Saturday 4 August, 10am to 2pm - One Stop Shopping Centre, Perry Barr
• Tuesday 7 August, 4pm to 8pm – University Stations (station plaza)
• Saturday 11 August, 10am to 2pm – High Street, city centre

Euston Station closures

Euston Station will be closed for three weekends over the summer while Wembley Junction is replaced. The closures will take place on:

• 18 to 9 August
• 25 to 27 August
• 1 to 2 September

Dartmouth Circus and M6 Junction 6 works (Spaghetti Junction)

Work is ongoing at Dartmouth Circus, but there will be no full closures this weekend.

Highways England maintenance is nearly complete. Full closure of the outbound A38(M) and associated slip roads will be required overnight on 6, 7 and 8 August (contingency 9 Aug) for removal of the temporary traffic management infrastructure.
