Birmingham Connected extra - changes to traffic direction in Selly Oak and parking in Digbeth

Traffic routes in Selly Oak, parking in Digbeth, Clean Air Zone briefing

Selly Oak New Road

From the evening of Sunday 25 October, Harborne Lane in Selly Oak will be operating as a dual carriageway with traffic in both directions. If you are travelling in the area, please take care and follow road signs.

This is part of the Selly Oak New Road scheme (phase 1B), which will see improved connectivity in Selly Oak, with upgraded facilities for people walking, cycling and on buses, and reduced traffic congestion through Selly Oak local centre.

Chapel Lane will also become two-way from mid-November, and all construction works are expected to be substantially complete by the end of November 2020. Upon completion the site will also have:

  • Upgraded pedestrian/cyclist crossings at the junctions;
  • New segregated cycle tracks along Harborne Lane and Bristol Road;
  • New bus stops on Bristol Road;
  • New bus stops in both directions on Chapel Lane.
