Overview

Please note: due to the ongoing COVID 19 outbreak, we are suspending all work experience, internships, scholarship applications and graduate recruitment until further notice.

We intend to keep in touch via Microsoft teams and/or zoom and hold group and one to one sessions and answer any questions around work experience, internships, scholarship applications and graduate recruitment. We will be instead using this time to help you to prepare for applying for jobs, interviews, presentations and future work experience.

We will provide more details about this shortly, in the meantime if you have any queries, please contact us by emailing bbs@birmingham.gov.uk

The Building Birmingham Scholarship provides access to a wide range of education, employment and training opportunities for talented young people aged 16 to 24, who wish to pursue a career in the construction and built environment industries. This includes:

  • Mentoring and coaching
  • Work placements
  • Internships
  • Apprenticeships
  • Financial support to help towards tuition fees for those who wish to continue their studies at HE level at a local college or university on relevant courses

The scholarship is funded by a levy paid upon each unit of housing built by developers on the Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust (BMHT), as part of an initiative to develop best practices for both the council and BMHT partners to play a greater role in supporting, training, up skilling, mentoring and coaching young people.

We are investing up to £9,500 per student, with a maximum of 25 students. See the leaflet for more information.

It has been created in tribute to the late Mr Tony Robert, a long standing manager for Birmingham City Council, who played a key part in driving forward the successful housing regeneration of the city and left a valuable legacy and vision for how to improve the quality of housing and choice for the future.

The scholarship acknowledges the support of:

  • Arcadis
  • Capita
  • Galliford Try
  • Jessup
  • Kier
  • Lovell
  • Willmott Dixon
