It has been proved that sharing books with babies improves their learning ability - and it's fun!
Why not arrange a visit from Words on Wheels to introduce books and libraries
to children and their carers in your community?

Words on Wheels bus

What is Words on Wheels?

Words on Wheels is a custom-built mobile library for children of all ages, especially early years and their parents and carers. A visit from Words on Wheels gives children the opportunity to enjoy a story session and introduces parents and carers to the kind of material which is available in their local library.

Who can benefit?

Words on Wheels can be booked by organisations which work with young children, such as playgroups, nurseries, schools or special needs centres. It is also possible to book Words on Wheels for a community event. (WoW can only be booked by organisations, not by individual parents or carers).

Inside the Words on Wheels bus

What is there for children?

Words on Wheels is stocked with a whole range of children's books, games and materials including 'touch/feel' books for the very young, story tapes, pop-up books and beautifully illustrated 'big books' for group story sessions.

What about parents/carers?

For adults, there are books on childcare, education and health to browse through.

Are there special facilities?

Words on Wheels has been used particularly successfully by groups of children with disabilities and special needs and these groups are given priority. Resources include a lift for easy wheelchair access, audio visual facilities, tactile books, oversize books with large print and Braille items for children with visual impairments. An induction loop can be arranged to assist deaf and hard of hearing children.
