SRB6, a community-led regeneration programme, was set up as a seven year programme in 2000, and ended in March 2007.

SRB6 - Smiles Smarter

Its many projects have made significant improvements to North West Birmingham, including:

Over 1000 jobs created
Over 1500 jobs safeguarded
Over 2500 people trained, with qualifications
Over 1100 businesses supported
Over 950 voluntary and community groups supported
Raised educational attainment levels

So What Happens After SRB6

Many initiatives supported by SRB6 will continue, with support from other funding sources.Much of the work within schools has been recognised as best practice, and adopted across the city nationally, supported through the extended schools inititaive. The Primary Care Trust will continue to extend access to health information and healthy lifestyles through the Health Hubs, and Healthy Young People's project.

Extend Initiatives

Innovative work developed through the Youth Service is being adopted in other areas, and partners are keen to extend initiatives such as the Beyond Midnight University in the area. The North West City Jobs Team will continue working with employers, and providing bespoke training, to ensure many of the new job opportunities go to local people.Voluntary and community groups in the area are now better organises and skilled at accessing funding.

Sustained Regeneration

All the capital investment projects will continue to bring benefits, as one of the main aims of the SRB6 patnership has been to lay the foundations for ongoing sustained regeneration. Local communities will continue to benefit from quality green space, leisure and other opportunities as a result of SRB6 investment in parks and green spaces, and improvements to community facilities.

SRB6 support to businesses and improvements to local shopping centres will continue to bring benefits with the creation of local jobs. The new Skills Academy, which will open in autumn 2007, providing vocational training opportunities, will be another key legacy from SRB6. A Community Development Trust has also been established to support ongoing regeneration. SRB6 has also been working with the North West Area Regeneration team, in the City Council, to develop an Area Improvement Prospectus, to promote the area and encourage further private and public sector investment - bringing jobs and prosperity to north west Birmingham. SRB6 has ended, but there are firm foundations for the future!
