Overview

In defining fresh goals as part of a broad aim of raising the City's profile as an International City of Sport, Birmingham is looking towards a World Indoor Championships in 2018 that can act as a key driver in demonstrating the success of each element of the plan to get people moving and Running into Athletics.

Between now and 2018 the sport within the UK, as well as in and around our city is going to work together and work cleverly to achieve success for everyone.

The city, the clubs the community, the coach and the competitor, wherever and whenever they seek to become involved with the premier Olympic and Paralympic Sport - will be offered opportunity and support.

Athletics in Birmingham has a proud history of success that begins in local leagues and mass participation events then reaches to World Class events in the city and the Olympic stage. It is a city that has always sought to lead the way.

  • Birmingham Running & Triathlon (BRAT)

    BRAT logo The BRAT Club believes that physical fitness is a really important part of being healthy and happy. We welcome anyone who is keen to try athletics, triathlon, or simply running and training with a club. Our training sessions are friendly, fun and will get you fitter. We offer something for everyone, young and old, juniors and families, complete novices and experienced competitors, coaches, officials and social members.     Birchfield Harriers is the UK's premier athletics club and has been represented at every summer Olympics bar one since 1908. Based at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham we also have access to the High Performance Centre, an indoor facility whichprovides indoor training for a range of events including long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot putt, and pole vault. We offer coaching and community for a wide range of members, covering all disciplines from Road running to Sprint Hurdles!

    We offer quality coaching on our club nights on Tuesday and Thursdays and we develop young talent through ourAGA Academywhich runs on Saturday mornings.

    We are a friendly running and athletics club based at the "clubhouse" on Wyndley Lane in Sutton Coldfield, North Birmingham. We are ideally located to make great use of Wyndley athletics track and Sutton Park.

    Our training evenings are Tuesday and Thursday (6-8pm). In addition, a number of groups also go out on Sunday mornings. These Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday sessions are for age 9 and over. For 7 - 9 year olds we have an induction group which takes place on Thursday evenings from 5 - 6pm IN TERM TIME. All groups meet at the clubhouse on Wyndley Lane.

    If you are keen to compete for a successful athletics club then please feel free to come and join us on a Tuesday or Thursday evening.

    Established in 2000, the clubhas grown to become a popular and competitive running club in the heart of the West Midlands. We are based at theRowheath Pavilionin the beautiful 'leafy' suburb of Bournville, home of Cadbury's chocolate

    Our members all share the common aim - the desire to run, to improve our performance and enjoy the experience of running. We look to encourage the runner in all of us and to make membership of BvHas fulfilling an experience as possible, where team performance and achievement are allied with personal improvement, participation and enjoyment.

    They welcome new adult members of all ages and abilities and cater for the novice to international standard. We have a performance team of Men and Ladies who are motivated to compete at the highest level. BvH provide the opportunity to train with runners of your own ability andthey are always looking for more runners to join us and achieve greater success.

    City of Birmingham Striders

    City of Birmingham Striders

    This is your local Birmingham city centre running club. They are a UKA affiliated club, emerging from Yoga Haven run club which was established in 2012.

    They offer four running sessions per week and work to ensure the club has a positive culture for all levels of running. The groups are for mixed pace runners with different levels of experience. Every session is supported by UK Athletics qualified running leaders.

    Run sessions are open to all from 12 years old upwards. 12 - 16 year olds must have written approval from an adult who is responsible for their care.

    Whilst leaders support runners at various paces the most suitable sessions for those in the early stages of getting confident in their running are Tuesday and Sunday. These two sessions include loops of less than 3 kilometers.

    Whether you are a seasoned runner or just thinking about starting, Kings Heath Running Club in Birmingham is probably for you.

    Formed in 2010, the group is made up of runners and 'want to be runners' living in or around Kings Heath.Are you thinking about doing your first run or want help training for a charity event? We can help you with your first steps or help you train for your first event.

    Are you already running and looking for company on the run or a little help with motivation? Or are you simply looking to meet other runners in your area and expand your social network?

    Don't worry if you've never run before- beginners are our speciality! We currently offer several different runs every week. 1 daytime session (Saturday mornings) and 2 evening sessions (Tuesdays and Thursdays), covering varying abilities. Beginners are catered for on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings.

    Whether you're an enthusiastic novice, junior or an experienced athlete, perhaps interestedin track and field or cross country, maybe you just want to get fit and lose a few pounds pounding the streets?

    Well, we hope that we have something to offer everyone.

    Come along one evening and see how you get on. We meet in the annexe of Fox Hollies Leisure centre every Tuesday and Thursday at 7.00pm. For seniors (adults), Thursdays are usually less structured and less well attended so newcomers are encouraged to come along to Tuesday sessions initially. For juniors, Tuesdays and Thursdays are equally suited.
