There are many theories on how Selly Oak received its name, they range from 'salt ley' or saltway through the meadow because of salt traffic from Droitwich to the North Sea: to 'Sele leah' or clearing with a hall on it or a clearing on a shelf of land. Others claim that it results from the Saxon word 'ley' meaning clearing in the forest, because of its position in the Forest of Arden. Some later sources claim that the name refers to Sarah's oak (later Sally's oak) after a local witch who was either hanged from it or was buried under it with an oak stake through her heart, which later it was claimed grew into an oak tree. |

Our Priorities The Constituency's
priorities are documented in both its Community and Development Plans.
The Constituency Development Plan (attached below) serves several purposes:
 | It sets specific actions that should be achieved by April 2009. | | It ensures that Constituency staff are clear about where they should be focussing their work activity and therefore enables a range of projects to be developed under the priorities during the next year (until April 2009). | | It enables Officers and Members to consider how resources could be refocused into service priorities. |
The priorities and work programmes set out in the Development Plan
emerged after considering the remit of the Constituency generally, the
priorities of Members, the priorities of service improvement as captured
in previous MORI or BMG surveys with residents and from local
Constituency knowledge. The Constituency Development Plan for
2008/2009 was agreed at Constituency Committee on 29 July 2008. Also
attached below is the final report on the 2007/08 Constituency
Development Plan.
