Safeguarding Statement

Birmingham City Council Sport and Leisure Service is committed to ensuring that children are protected and kept safe from harm whilst they are engaged in any activity provided by this section.

We will endeavour to do this by:
• ensuring that all our staff and volunteers are carefully selected, trained and supervised
• ensuring that parents, children, staff and volunteers are provided with information about Birmingham’s Child Protection Procedure, what it does and what they can expect from us
• ensuring that parents, children, staff and volunteers are provided with clear procedures to voice their concerns or lodge complaints if they feel unsure or unhappy about anything.

At all times the Sport and Leisure Service will focus on promoting the safety and welfare of every child taking part in sport. We aim:
• to create a healthy and safe environment at all activities, sport programmes and sessions, including private hire sessions
• to ensure children are listened to, and kept safe from harm
• to support and encourage parents to voice their opinions and any concerns regarding the welfare of their children
• to ensure staff and volunteers who administer sessions are well informed
• to comply with best practice in Child Protection.

Read a case study about a Birmingham Coach who attended the Safeguarding and Protecting Children workshop.

If you have any concerns about the behaviour of an adult or member of staff or you are worried about the welfare or safety of a young person/vulnerable adult you must report your concerns to a senior person or expert.
