Road Safety in Birmingham

Road Safety

Our team of Road safety officers are committed to making Birmingham’s road users as informed as possible, whether they are 3, 33 or 103! The team does this through Education, Training and Publicity.

Education

Road Safety education begins at an early age and continues throughout life. Birmingham City Council’s team is one of many organisations, including the Department for Transport and RoSPA, who are all working to reduce the number of road traffic accidents.

The team offers a service to nurseries and all schools to address the requirements of the National Curriculum.

Training

The road safety team trains and supports the people who live and work in the communities of Birmingham to deliver road safety training. The key areas for training are:

Child pedestrians
Cyclists
Drivers
Teachers and student teachers
Health workers

Publicity

National and local road safety issues are the subject, of regular publicity campaigns. National campaigns such as these remind us of the dangers of drinking and driving or the need to wear seatbelts. Local Publicity campaigns reinforce the message and also focus on issues such as summer child pedestrian’s casualties or the need for motorbike training.
