Situated close to the city centre, Edgbaston Reservoir is a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation. It was built in 1827 by Thomas Telford as a “top up” for Birmingham’s canal system and is still used for that purpose today. The 70 acres site is mainly open water and supports a variety of birdlife; it is also a valuable city site for animals such as newts and bats. A belt of woodland and grassland encircles the reservoir providing an oasis of natural beauty in an urban setting. There are currently no public toilets on site. |
|

The Ranger Service is resposible for the day to day management of the
Reservoir. They provide a public information service, a annual programme
of events and educational sessions which include:
School visits,
Forest School and Work experience placements. We work in partnership with
the police, environmental services, wildlife trust and other agencies to:
protect, promote and enhance the natural environment of the Reservoir for the
benefit of its wildlife, heritage, the local community and visitors.
|

All events at Edgbaston Reservoir meet at the Rangers Office, 115
Reservoir Road, are free of charge and led by Birmingham City
Council Park Rangers, unless listings state otherwise.
We welcome people with disabilities to our site and most of our "on the
move" talks we use the circular route around the reservoir which has a
fairly flat path. The route is approximate 2.8 km (1.75 miles) in length.
Events
include walks and talks, craft sessions and childrens storytimes. An
adult must accompany children at all times. Details may be subject to
change, and therefore we recommend you telephone in advance for
confirmation.
The public events we run are primarily for
individuals and family groups, rather than large organised groups. We do
however offer a wide range of activities, walks and talks for local
community groups and organisations please contact us for further details.
