How Much Does It Cost To Apply For Planning Permission?

You will have to pay a fee to apply for planning permission (unless you are entitled to an exemption or concession). The fees are payable when you submit your application to us. Your application will NOT be processed until we have received the correct fee.

The Planning Portal Fee Calculator can assist you by working out the cost of any particular planning application. It takes the form of a series of 'yes or no' answers from which data is compiled to calculate the total cost of the application ranging from a simple householder development to large scale schemes such as housing schemes or industrial estates.
How to pay - by debit or credit card
You can pay by debit or credit card over the phone by contacting Planning Direct on 0121 303 1115.
We will need to take the following details:
- Name on card
- Contact number
- Type of card
- Issue date
- Expiry date
- How much you will be paying
- What the payment is for
How to pay - online
We accept online payments by credit or debit card. These can be made as part of an online submission using the Planning Portal website. More information is available in our How do I Apply? section.
How to pay - by cheque or postal order
Cheques and postal orders should be made payable to 'Birmingham City Council'. If you wish to pay by cash, you can do so in person at our Reception. Please do not send cash through the post. Our address is
