Birmingham City Council

Birmingham People's Panel

The Birmingham People's Panel was first set up in 1999 as a way of involving the citizens of Birmingham in the development of Council priorities and policies. It has grown from strength to strength.

In 2006 the Panel was expanded from 1000 members to over 2,200 members. Broadly representative of the population of Birmingham, the People's Panel has become a vital sounding board for the Council, whilst giving citizens across the city an opportunity to speak out and provide valuable feedback.

Since it was established the Panel has been consulted regularly on a wide range of issues, and has helped inform decision-making and shape service delivery, as well as develop policy and strategy.

Panel members do not need any particular knowledge of Council services and are invited to complete questionnaires, take part in telephone interviews, focus groups and workshops. Issues covered by the Panel in the past include satisfaction with the Council and the services it provides, what residents priorities are for Council services, Digital Technology, Climate Change and Neighbourhood Policing.
