How do we decide which roads or pavements get repaired?
There
are two ways:
1. The first is by a continuous programme of
inspecting Birmingham's streets and pavements, so that we can identify
possible problems in advance, as well as seeing existing ones.
2.
We also rely on you telling us about repairs that you think need
carrying out. By listening to you, and looking ourselves, we decide
which repairs to do.
Will every repair get done?
Birmingham
City Council decides how much money it has to spend on road and footpath
maintenance. So whilst we may want to re-surface or re-lay a road or
footpath, it may have to be put on a waiting list because of limited
resources. The limits set by the City Council also mean that we have to
give priority to repairing real hazards, rather than areas which are
just unsightly. We look at every potential repair and balance the money
available with the urgency of the problem. We give priority to repairs
which keep roads and footpaths safe for you.
How quickly will
we carry out repairs?
The speed of the repair depends on how
urgent the problem is. We'll inspect within five working days (at the
most) anything you report. Emergency work will be completed within 24
hours after receiving the alert. Very dangerous situations will be made
safe within two and a half hours. These would include things like:
 | A dangerous pothole or tripping hazard. | | A serious skidding hazard caused by material on the road. |
If there's a reason for not carrying out any work, or if major repairs
are needed, we'll let you know.
