The Old Crown, Deritend, on the road up to Camp Hill, is one of the few
mediaeval buildings remaining in Birmingham. It was thought that it was built between 1450 and 1500. However, new evidence suggests that it may have been built in
1492, the same year as the Saracen's Head, King's Norton.
It is now a
pub, but originally may have been a wealthy merchant's house, or may
have been the school built by the Guild of St. John's for the education
of their sons.
