Mental Health Day Services Consultation 2009

Between 22 May and the 19 August 2009 we consulted on the future of all Mental Health Day Services in Birmingham.

Social work staff work in teams with a range of health colleagues such as community psychiatric nurses, consultant psychiatrists and psychologists. These teams offer a range of treatments and services to people with mental health problems, including social work support and care management.

A number of services, such as day services, are provided directly. Others are commissioned from a wide range of voluntary organisations such as drop in centres, counselling, advocacy, welfare rights, making friends services and flexible respite provision. Some services are also available outside office hours.

How to get a service

To work out the type of help you require, an assessment will need to be arranged by a social worker and is divided into two parts:

A fair access to care services: This considers all your needs and decides how much help you require. For more information about this assessment please visit the Fair Access to Care Services webpage.

Financial assessment: This decides if you are eligible for financial assistance, and if so, how much you will have to contribute toward the cost of your care. For more information about this assessment please visit the Accommodation Charges webpage.
