Early Support Service for Pre-School Children with Additional Needs
This page is known as: www.birmingham.gov.uk/early-support
The Early Support Service provides specialised home teaching and support for babies and pre-school children with additional needs and their families.
In Birmingham, the Early Support Service uses the national Early Support materials and approach to working in partnership with families and other professionals.
Our team is made up of experienced Teachers (including the teachers who work in the Child Development Centres), Portage Home Visitors and Higher Level Teaching Assistants.
We work with babies and young children who have difficulties affecting their learning and development in two or more of the following areas:
- Language and communication
- Play and learning
- Physical development
- Social development and behaviour
We see children on a regular basis, usually at home and sometimes at playgroups, nurseries and Children’s Centres.
We may not be able to offer support straight away but we make sure each child is allocated to a named member of the team as soon as a place becomes available.
