Public Register of Environmental Information: Genetically Modified Organisms
Register of applications to release or market genetically modified organisms (GMOs)
The register contains summaries of applications for consent to release or market GMOs, including the applicants risk assessment, the advice of the Advisory Committee on Releases to the Environment (ACRE - the independent statutory committee which advises the Government) and the Secretary of State's letter giving consent to an application.
To arrange inspection of the register or for more information contact the Environment Agency
Register of Notifications
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) holds a register of notifications seeking HSE consent from firms intending to use genetically modified organisms which could be hazardous to people and/or the environment. You will find a summary of information in individual notifications where HSE consent is required to work with genetically modified organisms in containment (e.g. laboratories). In some cases the HSE may agree to withhold certain details from the register to protect commercial confidentiality or intellectual property.
