Receiving a visit from Trading Standards
We aim to promote fair trading to the benefit of legitimate trade. If we visit you we will:-
- Always have ID please check
- Carefully explain why you may be required to do something.
- Confirm that in writing.
- Provide you with trader information leaflets where appropriate.
- Offer you the opportunity to discuss, with a senior officer, any decision we make.
Our published Enforcement Policy informs the decisions that we take when we find that an offence has been committed.
Consumer Credit Licences
If your business offers any kind of consumer credit or hire, you will probably need a licence as required by the Consumer Credit Act 1974. These are issued by the Financial Conduct Authority.
Are you a trader knocking door to door?
When selling goods or services door to door, and entering into contracts over £42 in a consumer's home, you need to issue a cancellation notice by law. This gives the consumer 14 days to cancel the contract. Cancellation notices need to be provided in a prescribed format, for more guidance please see http://www.businesscompanion.info/
