If a property is already numbered, a property owner can additionally name their property without contacting us as long as it does not conflict with an existing property name on the same street. The property name in this case will not officially form part of the property address, and the property number must still be displayed and referred to in any correspondence.

You only need to seek permission from us if there is no number allocated in the official address (ie. if the property has been allocated a name as part of its official address) or if you wish us to register the name with Royal Mail. However, Royal Mail keeps its Postcode Address File (PAF) as a tool for managing postal deliveries and in some cases, it may only be possible to register a property name as an Alias, which will not be visible on their address lookup web page. Registering an address with Royal Mail

Royal Mail owns the Postcode Address File (PAF) which is widely used for verifying addresses and internet shopping. Sometimes the address of an established property is missing from PAF.

If this is a problem, please download this application form and enter the details of your address at Sections 1 and 4. The Team will investigate and confirm when your address has been added to PAF.
