On Street Parking
On Street Pay and Display
Parking on the street in Birmingham city centre is subject to restrictions. All parking zones within the city centre operate a pay and display system using ticket machines. Alternatively, payment can be made by phone using a credit or debit card.
The charging hours in the Inner Zone are between 8am and 7.30pm every day (except Bank Holidays and Christmas Day). All other parking zones operate between 8am and 6pm Monday to Saturday. Motorists are required to pay the appropriate charge between these hours. A list of all the current on-street parking charges is available the bottom of this page.
Parking is limited to a maximum stay of up to two hours in the Inner Zone and up to 4 hours in the Outer Zone and Gun Quarter Zone. There is a mix of 2 and 4 hour maximum stay bays in the Jewellery Quarter Zone.
Motorists are advised to consult the information plate on the ticket machine for the charges and charging hours applicable to the street where they are parking.
A Penalty Charge Notice may be issued for the following reasons:
- Parking without clearly displaying a valid ticket.
- Parking after expiry time on ticket.
- Parking with payment made to extend the stay beyond expiry time paid for on arrival.
- Parking for longer than permitted.
- Parking again in the same parking place within one hour of leaving.
- Parking in a suspended parking place or space.
- Parking a vehicle other that a passenger vehicle for up to 12 passengers (no trailer), a goods vehicle (no trailer), a motorcycle or an invalid carriage.
Vehicles may also be removed and a charge will be made for retrieval or disposal.
Normal parking controls can be suspended in parking bays if there is a need to do so, for example because of building work or to help traffic flow.
Please contact us soon as you can (we need at least 24 hours notice).
The cost is £32 per day, per bay. You must pay this charge before your parking bay suspension will be granted.

A dispensation allows a specified vehicle to park on single or double yellow lines or certain other parking restrictions during restricted hours. There must be a compelling reason for the vehicle to be parked at the requested location and there is no suitable legitimate parking available.
If you would like to apply for a parking dispensation, contact us at least 24 hours in advance. A charge is made to cover our administration costs. This charge must be paid before the dispensation will be issued. The Traffic Manager will decide whether to grant a dispensation or not, having taken into account the impact that granting the dispensation would have on traffic flow.
The cost is £11.50 per vehicle, per day.
