Music for SEN
Music for pupils with special educational needs
We believe that all children are able to appreciate music and access the music curriculum.Children with Special Educational Needs may attend schools for pupils having mild or severe learning disabilities; emotional and behavioural difficulties; physical disabilities or they may attend mainstream schools.
In teaching such children, a flexible approach should be taken, with care that the teacher does not prejudge or underestimate the ability of each individual pupil. Ideally, the teacher should be aware of the ability and potential of each child, whilst acknowledging any disability as incidental to the teaching and learning process.
It may be necessary to adapt instruments, scores and teaching techniques in order to accommodate the different abilities of each pupil.
