Kajans Hospitality and Catering Studio College

A new Studio College will open in Birmingham from September 2013 sponsored by Kajans Women's Enterprise. A consultation on this new Studio College is running until 28 January 2013. Read the details in the document below.

Applications for September 2013 can be made directly to KHCSC using the Application Form that can be downloaded from the website www.KHCSC.co.uk or ordered by telephone on 0121 507 0904 or can be made online on the link below. From 1st October 2013 applications for September 2014 can be made using the Birmingham City Council application process.

Overview

There are three academies in Birmingham that will admit pupils aged from 14-19 years.

Each academy will recruit students at age 14 for admission into Year 10 and again at age 16 into Year 12. Admission will be based on their interest and
aptitude in specialist curriculum areas.

Who are they?

The Birmingham Ormiston Academy (BOA) is for 950 pupils. The Academy will admit up to 300 pupils aged 14 – 16 and 650 pupils aged 16 – 19. It will specialise in creative, digital and performing arts. The sponsors are Ormiston Trust and Birmingham City University. The Academy has a range of partners
including the BRIT School in Croydon, who will help support them and develop the curriculum.

The Aston University Engineering Academy (AUEA) is for 600 pupils. The Academy will admit up to 240 pupils aged 14 – 16 and 360 pupils aged 16 – 19. It will specialise in engineering and science. The sponsor is Aston University.

Kajan’s Hospitality and Catering Studio College is for 300 pupils and will cater for students from 14 to 19, offering them a new and inspiring approach to learning, which includes teaching through enterprise projects and work. For more information please see the brochure at the top of this page.

If you wish to apply for a place at either Birmingham Ormiston Academy, The Aston University Engineering Academy, Kajans Hospitality and Catering Studio or an academy in another local authority for September 2013, you should apply when your child is in Year 9 to the local authority in which you live. If you live in Birmingham you should apply online or complete the Local Authority Preference Form (14-19). In the case of Birmingham Ormiston Academy you will also need to complete their supplementary information form.

Before you apply online or complete the Local Authority Preference Form (14-19) it is very important that you contact the academy and attend information events to understand their admission criteria, and discuss the implications of a move for your child with the Principal and academy staff.

• How will your child cope with learning new rules and having to do things differently?

• If your child your leaves their current school that place will be offered to another child from the school’s waiting list and he/she may not be able to return.
