The Ideal Village Conservation Area in Bordesley Green was designated in 1990.
The Ideal Village is important historically, architecturally and socially and its protection was felt necessary to protect against the gradual erosion of the character of the village by unsympathetic additions to properties.
In 1996 we restricted the type of work often permitted without planning permission to retain the character further. This is known as an Article 4 Direction. It means that planning permission is required from us to, for example, erect a wall or fence, extension or porch, etc.
In March 2009 the Article 4 Direction as detailed above was revoked and no longer applies to this Conservation Area.
A map showing the boundary of the conservation area is below along with the designation report.
