Welfare Reform Inquiry - Tuesday 11th September 2012 – Birmingham Council House, Victoria Square, Committee Rooms 3&4.

On the 11th September 2012 the Social Cohesion and Community Safety Scrutiny Committee, chaired by Councillor Waseem Zaffar, will be conducting an Inquiry into the potential impact of Welfare Reform in Birmingham.

The aim of the inquiry is for all to have a full understanding of what the changes are, what implications there might be for communities and individuals in Birmingham and whether there will be an impact on social cohesion in the city. The key questions Members are looking to explore include:

- How changes being introduced through the Welfare Reform Act will impact upon Birmingham;

- What support individuals may need following on from the changes;

- What more Birmingham City Council and partners could do to support those affected.

A call for written evidence was held over July and August and 17 submissions from various organisations were received.

The meeting will be held in the Committee Rooms 3 and 4 of the Council House, Victoria Square at 2pm. Representatives from a number of organisations, including Birmingham Citizens Advice Bureau and St Basils will be participating in the debate. This meeting will be held in public and you are more than welcome to attend to observe the debate.

Further details about the meeting and all the written evidence which was submitted is available to download from the Democracy in Birmingham website:
