Birmingham Ensembles

Birmingham Music Service organises and administers 19 Central Ensembles and 41 Area Ensembles, at no charge to parents.

These ensembles are highly valued by the Children, Young People and Families Service. Many elected members of the Council and senior officers attend concerts each year.

William Salamon undertook a thorough review of the Music Ensembles, commissioned by Birmingham Music Service. This is what he said:

"The Central Ensembles in Birmingham form one of the city's great strengths, many of the individual ensembles fulfil splendidly their dual function of providing worthwhile musical experiences for pupils and presenting musical excellence to the public. The management is both efficient and visionary."

Birmingham Music Ensembles exist in order to:
  • give pupils the opportunity to perform in groups of a size and standard beyond that possible in individual schools
  • provide a clear progression for developing musicians offering a range of appropriate musical experience.
