Avian Influenza (Bird Flu)
The Animal Welfare Team in Birmingham has responsibility for the application and enforcement of notifiable animal disease prevention and control provisions made under the Animal Health Act 1981. National animal disease controls are the responsibility of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
In the event of any animal disease restrictions being implemented, the City Council will seek to ensure that all controls are complied with and will take appropriate educational and enforcement action. We will also work closely with all stakeholders to eradicate the disease and where possible prevent any re-occurance.The awareness of city residents to such controls will be paramount to both control and successful eradication.
