What Schools Can Do
Information for Schools
BASIC 21 is a sustainability award that offers a framework for action, guidance, information and support to all Birmingham Schools on nine Sustainable Development themes. Action might involve the curriculum, school site, community activity, special events or a combination of themes.
Evidence is collated through a face to face audit and consultation with Heads and other teachers, a tour of the school followed by a presentation performed by Schools Council’s or Eco Councils at an Award Ceremony: themes are:-
- Purchasing and Waste
- Food and Drink
- School Buildings and Grounds
- Inclusion and participation
- Energy and Water
- Global Dimensions
- Local Wellbeing
The BASIC 21 award is a mark of recognition for work a school has already carried out, and to achieve this award you have to have been involved with five of the above themes including the ‘Energy and Water’. A free Energy Audit is also offered to your school within the BASIC 21 consultation process to help your school save money and cut carbon.
