Happy Families

This is a true story from one of Birmingham's adoptive parents

Zoë and Chris had been together for a number of years before they decided to start a family. Conceiving their first birth daughter took them some time, but eventually with the help of IVF their dreams came true and Zoë gave birth to Sadie. When Sadie was two years old, Zoë and Chris wanted more children and decided that adoption was the route they wanted to take.

"We found Izzie when she was two and a half years old, explained Zoë. "She did have a few issues in the beginning in that she wouldn't speak. But it's been so wonderful to watch her blossom and she speaks beautifully now. When she was five years old, her birth mother had a second child that she wasn't able to raise herself and so we were contacted to see if Izzie's little brother would be able to join our family. Elijah came to us just over three and a half years ago when he was seven months old. It was lovely to be able to bond with him from such an early age. They have both been wonderful.

"We have a fantastic family now - Chris and I and our three children. It literally is 'happy families'. The children are great and they get on ... most of the time", laughed Zoë. "Having three young children does sometimes present its challenges but we wouldn't have it any other way. We're so happy now. And we're living proof that children keep us young!"
