Birmingham City University Partnership
Urban Design and Birmingham City University have formed a collaborative partnership to promote the construction industry and employment opportunities. The innovative partnership is establishing itself by sharing knowledge, expertise and best practice solutions.
All of these objectives have been agreed to in the form of an official charter signed my both parties in February 2008.
The charter has set the following aims:
- Working together to promote the construction industry
- Provide continuous professional development
- Developing people to support and lead industry
- Create future employment opportunities
- Undertake research and development projects
- Share experience, expertise and better practice
- Exchange information linking academia to industry
- Explore future business opportunities
Student Awards for Excellence
In October 2008, Urban Design hosted the partnerships first Student Awards for Excellence at the Council House, to celebrate the achievements of the Citys highest achievers.
The awards highlighted the excellent standard of work achieved by current Birmingham City University students across projects, dissertations and technical application. Categories included the Best use of Computer Assisted Measurement software, Best Legal Assignment, HNC Construction Best Student Prize and Project Team Awards.
In October 2008, Urban Design launched a number of year long placements, with current 2nd year Birmingham City University students working on an all new rotation programme within the Urban Design team learning disciplines such as quantity surveying, energy management and architecture.
The scheme is proving successful and is helping the Urban Design team in its succession planning by encouraging new graduates to join the team.
