Councillor Anne Underwood
Welcome to the Sutton Coldfield District web pages.

This is now the eighth year where responsibility for the management of many services are under the remit of the Sutton Coldfield District Committee. The twelve locally Elected Councillors who serve on the Committee, supported by a team of officers, have continued to work with local people to ensure that Council services provided in the area closely reflect your needs and aspirations.

To remain focused on delivering first class front line services our recent priorities have been formulated by issues identified from within the District. These are linked at a strategic level to maintain that locally and corporately everyone is working to the same or similar objectives, hence avoiding duplicity, driving forward efficiency and raising standards.

The Local Strategic Partnership is also an important focus of activity bringing statutory agencies together with community representatives and special interest groups to deliver actions through five key areas:

  • Culture & Sport
  • Economic Development & Enterprise
  • Children & Young People
  • Be Healthy
  • Stay Safe

The priorities of the District Team together with those of the Local Strategic Partnership are specifically developed and adapted to reflect the emerging needs and interests of the people who live and work in Sutton Coldfield. I invite anyone who wishes to contribute or become actively involved in the District to contact the District Office directly by telephone (no. 0121 464 9083), or alternatively, attend any of the regular meetings held to consider Council business in the District. It is your opportunity to influence the way that Council services operate in the Sutton Coldfield area.

It is impossible to reflect on the past two years without acknowledging the impact on people’s lives and our immediate environment through what has become one of the worst economic periods in recent history. The reality is that this financial crisis will undoubtedly result in us having to make some difficult decisions, not least on how we manage our budgets and resources to ensure front line services are maintained at their current level.

However, our residents and businesses continue to demand high quality services that are responsive to local need. They also expect good value for money, the elimination of waste and continuous improvement across the broad spectrum of Council run services. I can assure you that we will work as hard as we can to meet these expectations over the coming months.
