Little Hippos Multicultural Nursery and Day Care Ltd
Pleaded guilty at Birmingham Crown Court on 20th September 2012 to two offences following an accident at the nursery where a child fell through the side railings of the fire escape and landed on a concrete floor. The child was taken to hospital where he was placed in an induced coma and treated for a fractured skull.One offence of failing to ensure that a child in their care was not exposed to risks to their health and safety, a suitable risk assessment had not been carried out on the fire escape and staff hadn’t received adequate training regarding the use of the fire escape and the risks associated with children using it. The second offence related to the failure to notify the relevant authority of the accident within 10 days. The offence took place at Little Hippos Multicultural Nursery and Day Care Centre, 318 Summer Lane, Newtown, Birmingham.

Pleaded guilty at Birmingham Magistrates Court on 17th January 2013 to two offences:one of failing to ensure that persons not employed by the company were not exposed to risks to their health and safety by failing to ensure that
the horizontal swing barriers at Gala Bingo, 973 Kingsbury Road, Erdington were safely used and one offence of failing to assess the risk posed by the swing barriers, the swing barrier penetrated the windscreen of a car whilst the driver was in a queue to leave the car park.
