Birmingham City Council

Central Neighbourhood Parks - Sunset and Moonlit

Park Central
The City Council Landscape Practice Group designed the two parks at Attwood Green as part of Park Central innovative relationship between developers Crest Nicholson and joint landowners Birmingham City Council and Optima Community Association. The first of the two parks, Moonlit Park, was opened to great acclaim in the summer of 2005 whilst the second, Sunset Park was completed in July of this year.
Following agreement from all parties concerned, English Landscapes Ltd, the contractor who constructed both parks entered them into the 30th BALI National Landscape Awards 2006. Due to the regeneration nature of the project, it was decided that the category of Land Renewal would be the best suited category for this scheme. In September 2006, BALI announced the finalists for this year awards, the Parks gaining success in this category.
On Friday 3 November 2006, at the awards ceremony at the Park Hilton, London, BALI announced that Sunset and Moonlit Park had won the Principal Award in its category in recognition of the contractor, designer and clients working in harmony to produce an exceptional scheme.
The judges praised the design and both parks are now recognised by CABE (Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment) as a model of good practice nationwide.
